RACING REPORT

ALL STARS HAD TWO STARTERS IN EACH OF THREE RACES AT ADDINGTON ON THURSDAY-AND QUINELLAED TWO OF THEM !

**FAITH can be everything in horse racing and the connections of PRINCE FEARLESS would have been reminded of that as the seemingly foolproof youngster took out the $63,000 PGG Wrightson Sales Trot for two year olds at Addington on Thursday night. Prince Fearless never made a mistake and the patience of Blair Orange proved a deciding factor. Ironically Blair had to run down his future partner Ken Barron to win the feature after finishing second in the Trotting Stakes last week.

Faith ? Well Prince Fearless owners, Kennard Bloodstock, Neil Pilcher, John Magness and and Ken and Karen Breckon who bred the youngster, is a full brother to Not About the Money which the same syndicate raced as a youngster. Not About the Money looked anything early on  but developed some frustrating wayward tendencies which have put him on out of training at the moment. Prince Fearless is almost the complete opposite in temperament, a sensible short who is cashing in on the right attitude in big two year old races. It is likely to restore some of the owners faith in trotting horses as well. Not About the Money was the first trotter the Kennards or Neil Pilcher had raced. The result pushed All Stars over $2m in stakes won for the season. Phil and Glenys Kennard are also in ISAIAH as is John Magness while the Breckons of course raced the superstar I CAN DOOSIT from All Stars.

Pilch posted an ownership double when ALTA ORLANDO the most improved youngster in the stable, was far too good in his Sires Stakes heat running home in 2.22 (56.1 and 26.9) after sitting parked outside Art Union. It was no surprise that the latter would be favourite but surprising that punters eased out of Alta Orlando to $6 after who was brilliant winning the Welcome Stakes so recently. Natalie allowed him to find his feet then took the race to the favourite while Hug the Wind trailed him. The two ran the quinella but this time Alta Orlando another result of Pilch's great breeding theory -also known as "buy something by Courage Under Fire''-was definitely superior. His partner is Jimmy Gibbs and the future looks very bright for this typically well bought yearling. Besides Pilch has got his money back well and truly after a bit of a punt went astray a few weeks ago ! What's more that wasn't his last thrill of the night.

ICEOBAR and ASSASSINATOR quinellaed the 11th with Natalie-who races Iceobar with Pilch and Trevor Casey again showing her uncanny ability to help a horse racing in the open to relax at Addington. Iceobar had done plenty but found another gear in the straight and held out a game stablemate.

NEWS XTRA -

***ALDO ROSSI who is entered in Auckland on Friday is racing en route to Brisbane on May 1st where he has a couple of rich assignments. As a Rasmussen owned and trained three year old he is not short of sleeping quarters and tender loving care across the Tasman and as a Queensland bred he is eligible for some good stakes coming up in May in features sponsored by the Seymours.

Heats for the $A75,000 Seymour Classic will be held on May 13 and four days later is the Final over 2130.  On May 23 are heats for the QBred Triad Series also sponsored by the Seymours and the $A80,000 Final is on Saturday May 31-the same day as the Jewels. Natalie said nothing had been decided about his staying for the Queensland Derby later on at this stage.

"We are just targeting the other two races so far. He is quite a lightly framed horse and he has had the odd setback this season which hasn't helped him but obviously a very talented horse. But a Derby start might depend on how he comes through the Seymour series which are good races for him. We also have not decided whether we would take another three year old over for the Derby as we did with Best Deal Yet and O Baby but it is a possibility. When that is decided we can be more certain''

***Meanwhile as many stable representatives might be watching KEPT UNDER WRAPS as FOLLOW THE STARS in the APG semis on Friday. The colts headed to Melbourne on Tuesday with Ross Payne Supersonic Miss remaining in Sydney for the $A322,000 APG filly final on Sunday at Menangle.

The reason the unbeaten Kept Under Wraps is the centre of attention from his handy 5 draw (11.43 nz time) is that he is opposed by MACH DORO who is shaping as the horse the Kiwis have to beat in the rich $322,000 Final of the series. "It will give us a heads up as to what we have to do'' Natalie noted. "It looks like a lead/trail scenario so it will be an interesting income. Ross has been pleased with all three horses and the colts have done well''

The irony of all this ? Well take a look at Mach Doro's pedigree and you see the names Mach Three and Three Eagles. That's right. He is a brother to Fly Like an Eagle and went for big money at last year's sales. Mark didn't see another Fly Like an Eagle there so to see the youngster remain unbeaten after two runs at Melton will come as a bit of a surprise. On the other hand the bloodline is proven even if the Follow the Stars team might feel the irony of the situation if they are beaten by a brother to their earlier outstanding performer. Follow The Stars has drawn 11 in his semi (8.07 our time) and on his dominating heat win he is sure to make a big impression again.

Natalie says Mark is "ok'' with the one draw with Supersonic Miss but it is not ideal. "In a race like that it really means you have to kick out and you don't have the options he would have preferred'' Supersonic Miss settled off the pace in her semi and it is hardly likely Mark will be looking for a battle to the death in front.

BLAIR TAKES ON A NEW CHALLENGE

A close association with All Stars going back 12 years will end in July when Blair Orange strikes up a new career combining training with driving.

Blair has entered into an agreement with Ken Barron to operate a training/driving operation similar to that which Ken enjoyed with his mentor John Lischner which resulted in Ken ultimately taking over the training operation. Blair will continue to drive free lance where he can and is sure to be seen in the All Star colours again-but not as a stable associate which he has been since 2002.

"The only reason for my leaving is that this is an opportunity too good to miss " Blair said.

"It was always going to come to this sooner or later because I intended striking out on my own. This is just an ideal way to take the next step. Mark and Natalie have been involved through the process and we part on the best of terms. I have been grateful for what happened to me during my time at All Stars. It lifted me into the big time you could say and gave me great opportunities I would not have got  otherwise. We have always had a good relationship and that will continue. But you have to keep moving forward. I was due to do that. I am looking forward to the challenge''

Blair was approached by Ken after the latter decided he would take a step back from race driving and concentrate more on stable administration.

Both Mark and Natalie offer Blair all the best in his new venture.

As Natalie put it "We wish Blair all the best. He had been with the stable 12 years or so after all and has always been an important member of Mark's team and he  justified that confidence and was very loyal.  There always comes a time when you move on and this is a good opportunity for him''

Blair joined All Stars within a couple of years of leaving junior driver ranks. In December 1997 he drove his first winner, Whizza Nova, at Reefton , trained by Tim Butt who was then his employer  His winnning total in stakes was just over $7000. By 2007 his winning drives had topped $1m a season in earnings having built steadily during his stay with All Stars and have rarely dropped below that figure.

Blair has set a stack of personal records including seven Harness Jewels wins and set such marks as four of the last 8 runnings of the Welcome Stakes. All Stars have helped him push his total wins to 929 and he should join the 1000 club before the end of the year. Even if the 1000th winner does not come in All Stars colours Blair would be the first to say its contribution to his career has been crucial.

WHO WE ARE-WHERE WE ARE GOING

ALL STARS STABLE prides itself on its professionalism, its innovation,

and its organisation- and how those three dynamics work in our quest

to give our owners the best possible deal.

As New Zealand's leading stable  Mark, Natalie and stable horseman  Blair Orange

are conscious that only the best will do.

Last season's sensational results are all the evidence you need

that their efforts are being rewarded.

A key is the wonderful complex Mark built from scratch in 2007 at

Rolleston.

It is the most advanced harness barn in the southern hemisphere with

track facilities to match.

That includes a separate  straight mile track.

Our complex has  proven a big bonus for horses and staff.

The barn caters for 40 horses with another 12 boxes and paddocks galore.

In the sometimes brisk Canterbury climate, All Stars horses are

accommodated at equine five star level.

Mark Purdon has already trained over 100 Group One winners something never previously achieved in this country.

There is a stream Horse of the ear award winners, a long list of New Zealand records and the best UDR ratings of

any horseman in our history. He has trained more Harness Jewels winners than anyone (over $2m worth) and

regularly tops $2.5 milliion in stakes each season.

Plus over 20 Group One wins in Australia  !

We won't start on the yearling selection record !

Horses winning is our aim-not just horses racing.

That requires a lot of hard work and a lot of good owners. We believe

our owners are the best.

We want to do our best to make their experience even better

Feel free to join us. You will always be welcome and if your horse has

the ability the sky is the limit.

If it turns out to be not a star there is no shortage of demand for

horses developed at All Stars.
